About Us

Kemble Mountain Roastery: Coffee BeansKemble Mountain Roastery was created to fill a need in my life for some serious coffee.

I also started it as a way to be able to work from home in our wonderful little hamlet of Kemble (Ontario).  Initially, I was looking at opening up a coffee shop, but this was not really an option in a community that has no municipal water.  So instead and with a strong demand for fresh roasted coffee, Kemble Mountain Roastery was born.

In September 2005 I roasted my first batch of coffee, and immediately began to develop a loyal customer following through the Owen Sound Farmers’ Market.

My initial offering featured five different varieties of single origin coffees, of which two were Organic Fair Trade.

Over time, I have chosen to exclusively use Organic and Fair Trade coffees.  My decision is a direct result of the voice of my customers.  I have been continually impressed with the level of awareness within our community about the conditions affecting traditional coffee growers.  The choice to purchase Organic and Fair Trade coffees is a terrific means of providing social and economic stability to farmers in countries with whom we would otherwise have little means of direct contact.

Fair Trade coffee ensures that the farmer receives a fair wage for the coffee that s/he sells.  This in turn, is passed on to the employees that s/he hires.  As well, if the farm is producing Organic coffee, then this too will increase the amount of dollar per pound that the farmer receives.  This decision does limit my coffee selection and availability at times but I believe that it is to our benefit to support this global effort.

In just a few short years, Kemble Mountain Roastery has achieved success and experienced growth that has exceeded our initial expectations.  In 2008 our family run business expanded with a new and larger roaster when we moved our operation to a rural location in the Allenford (Ontario) area.  Nevertheless, our name continues to reflect our humble beginnings in the community of Kemble.

Please stop by and visit one of our marvelous retailers … and let us know what you think of our coffee … we always welcome your thoughts and your feedback.

Sincerely
